I have bought over 400 domain names through Godaddy. They told me I must call in to get the lowest price of $7.49. However, if you click their pay per click ads you can get them as low as $6.89. They have at least 4 different prices, as high as $9.99 and as low as $6.89.  That is quite a gap in price. But at any price, I would recommend against using Godaddy.

I had always been told that I can only get discounts if I call in the order or email it. Now it is reversed. I called in today and asked the original person about the $6.99 domain names. It works out to $7.17 per domain and is what I would be charged if I ordered myself online. This is currently the rate everyone gets; I signed someone up a few days ago and this is what he paid for a domain. I specifically asked you if I had been charged the $6.99 rate and you said yes. But clearly, this was not the case. In fact, it seems the price is randomly generated day by day and even varies by day as occurred in one of the orders. This is not the first time I have had this issue.

Below is the breakdown of the overcharges:

6/28/2010 $39.65  / Should be $35.85 , difference of $3.8
6/23/2010 $7.93, 76 cents owed
6/22/2010 $7.93, 76 cents owed
6/22/2010 $31.72, 4 X 76 cents owed = $3.04
5/17/2010 $73.36 ($9.17 per domain!) 8 domains X $2 extra charge = $18 owed
5/15/2010 7 X .76 = $5.32
5/13/2010 76 cents extra charge
5/11 $470.88 = $7.3575 each X 64 domains!  .1875 more than 1 domain rate = $12 overcharge
5/10/2010   8 X .76 = $6.08
5/9/2010 2 X .76 = $1.52
5/7/2010   $10.87 for 1 domain - $7.17 = $3.7 over charged
5/7/2010   .76 owed
5/7/2010 (wow, this one was actually charged the right amount and the other 3 form the same day were different)
4/27/2010    76 cents
4/9/2010 (I bought this domain myself online and it was $7.67)
4/8/2010 called in and charged $7.93, 26 cents more.
4/1/2010 charged $7.93 for a domain, 26 cents more than the then current rate of $7.67 (includes all fees).
3/26/2010 charged $7.93 26 cents extra.
3/24/2010 charged $7.93 26 cents extra.
3/17/2010   9 domains at $7.93 each X 26 cents = $2.34 more than the current rate for any customer. period.
3/13/2010 This was when there was a .com special but  the .nets were charged at $9.17! $1.5 more than the $7.67 price that all customers get when ordering themselves = $3 overcharge

$57.98 extra charges
Please refund this money immediately. I would also like to request a new representative be assigned to my account. Thanks.

And the reply from my rep?

John,

Apparently that is a marketing code that has been sent out before the price increase that I wasn't aware of.

Marc

They then recommended that I pay $90 a year for their "Discount Domain Club!"  The $90 would allow me to pay $7.29 per domain name.

Or, I could just click their pay per click ad for free, which probably costs THEM an extra 50 cents, and get it for $6.89! WTF is that?
