GKG.NET
I've been using GKG.NET for my domains (over 300 of them) for the past 7 years. As far as price goes, they are comparable to GoDaddy and others and in some cases even beat them.

Service is very good, I get responses usually within hours not days. According to their history page, they've been around for 14 years (I believe that's even longer than GoDaddy).

Just my $.02 worth.

Re: GKG.NET
And so it begins. I'm doing some research and will post significant results as I find them. If the powers that be object to this, please message me!

I had been using GKG.Net, as it was a Slashdot darling in this kind of story 5 or 6 years ago. Things turned bad when I let one of my names go a couple days past the expiration date. I had never had that be a big deal before (I had that happen using DomainMonger and paying a few days late was never a big issue, but their prices had become double that of the competition). GKG, however, demanded $60 in addition to the cost of the domain renewal fee, saying that 3 different people in their organization had to work on the request. They would only take the $60 as a money order, too, which struck me as incredibly shady. Since I had taken a year and a half off to study, I didn't have money to frivolously throw away on domain extortion, so I let it go and thought I'd just register it when it dropped off. No such luck, and for the past 2 years some squatters in Vancouver have had it.

Re: GKG.NET
I, too, use GKG.net for some of my domain names. I recommend them. I also use Namecheap and Yahoo/MelbourneIT.
I've never had a problem with Go Daddy's domain service. But when I read about how they were confiscating domain names (about a year ago or so), I transfered all my domain names out. Their policy, even though I was never affected by it, led to them losing my domain business. Money out of Go Daddy's pocket.
I don't think ANY registrar should have the power to confiscate your domain names for "allegations" of spamming. I don't like spamming, either. But it isn't the role of a domain registrar to police the internet. They should handle domain name registrations and keep their nose out of where it doesn't belong.
I've read about people losing dozens of domain names because of "allegations" of spamming. Often Go Daddy offers to "release" the domain names so they can be transfered out, sometimes for $200 apiece.
I really was happy with Go Daddy's domain name service
until
I read about their confiscating practices.

I'm about the same. I have had odd issues with their policies but never had a domain snatched away. However when I heard what was going on..I got outta there fast.

Re: GKG.NET
Nice to see their own employees posting here.
GKG has got to THE WORSE REGISTER EVER. Try Godaddy+RegistryFly to the power of ten.
They suspended a domain of mine within an HOUR of receiving an email from a hotmail account. A guy (probably a competitor) didn't like what I had WRITTEN on the site. To turn it back on required an extortion "fee".
Say FAR AWAY from them. Their a mickey mouse operation in Texas staffed by stupid hicks.

Egads! Thanks very much for sharing your experiences. This isn't the sort of information you'll find on their website! :-o

Re: GKG.NET
So far and except for this thread, I've seen nothing but praises for GKG (per the first 25 hits from a google-search for them).
"GKG has got to THE WORSE REGISTER EVER" (2 posts ago)....
Did you also have hosting with them? Sounds as if perhaps you might have.

Re: GKG.NET
I found their support staff knowledgable. I registered a domain with them in September and moved another one there a couple of months ago without any problems. For one thing that I couldn't do myself to one of my registrations, I e-mailed them and they took care of it within a day. They also accept IPv6 glue records even when the registry for a TLD isn't yet capable (but I have yet to see if the IPv6 glue will be automatically added to the TLD zone file as that TLD is still ipv6 deficient - and doesn't even have IPv6 addresses for its own servers yet). (Hint: .name).
I plan on moving my remaining domains there on April 1 (of course).

Re: GKG.NET
think again! i've been using them for almost 10 years and refered many people to gkg.net. sadly i regret refereing people there....they're trying to extort $100 from me. all my domains (registered many but ony about 6 or so remains) are now locked for no apparent reason. they claimed they send me two emails over the past months to try to verify my info, but i have not received any of the two email claimed. i asked them to furnish the email header and mail id which they have yet to send me. in the email the person, said that they will remove/confiscate my domains a few days from now from my account....oh well, not worht the $100 they're trying to extort.
here's the email i got when i asked why my domains are locked:
Quote
To date you have not responded to any of our requests to update your contact
information nor have you provided adequate documentation verifying your
contact information. As a result all of your domain(s) have been placed on
registrar lock/hold. Because your account is in breach of our Service
Agreement, you will need to pay a $100.00 investigation fee along with any
documentation, to cover the cost of reviewing said documentation. If your
documentation is not received in another 5 days (120 hours), all of your
domains will be removed from your control. If your documentation results in
your account being cleared of WHOIS data/complaints, your domains will be made
available to you, but will be placed on administrative transfer lock for a
period of 1 year.
Please consider this communication as written notice that you are in breach of
our Service Agreement and your services are about to be terminated. If your
verification documentation is not received or accepted within the allotted
time frame, your domain(s) will be removed from your control.
ps, i finally was able to transfer a domain from NoDaddy after years of complain and email to gkg.net 11/20/2009, now it's locked!

WOW that's bad. Okay taking GKG off my list of "decent registrars"

Re: GKG.NET
RE ^^2: I don't like that. However, you didn't say whether the mailbox you had provided to them was still active or not or whther the whois information was accurate. If not, then you caused the issue, but I do agree that they shouldn't charge you $100.00 over the issue.
I suspect that there's more to the issue than what you said.

Re: GKG.NET
it's an active email and i do check it on a daily basis. and no, i get gkg email find when i registered my domain names since i added
support@gkg.net
to my address book; so no spam/junk filter. i requested for a complete email head from gkg along with the unique mail id; but they have not furnish me with such support to validate that they did send me the two notification for information update. also, on 11/20/2009, i transfered my domain name from godaddy to gkg.net--this is a bigger mistake! i should have used enom or some other one that works with google.

Re: GKG.NET
You still didn't say whether your registration (i.e. the "whois") information was correct other than the mailbox.

Re: GKG.NET (DNSSEC)
In response to a query I made of them, GKG expects to be ready for the .ORG DNSSEC rollout at the end of June 2010 (i.e. they will accept DS record information). GKG's schedule hopes to have their part implemented near the beginning of the month.

Re: GKG.NET (Complaint against)
Today, I have made a complaint to PIR.ORG about GKG.NET being listed as DNSSEC enabled (for the past month), yet offering
no
interface for domain registrants to provide the appropriate information to enable their domains, and have asked that GKG.NET be
removed
from the list of DNSSEC-offering registrars.
PIR has listed GKG.NET as DNSSEC-enabled since about June 27, 2010. As I have a .ORG domain registered through them, I checked (again) today for the ability to add my DS records, and found no such interface.
